The Flying Hospital can complete up to eight missions per year. Typically, each deployment spans 21 days, depending on the nature of the mission. With a full staff of medical personnel, The Flying Hospital is able to serve up to 30 patients per day. In addition to procedures performed aboard the aircraft, hundreds of patients are also seen each day at a temporary clinic site and local hospitals. In a typical three-week mission, more than 8,000 patients can be treated.

Medical teams on board the aircraft can provide surgical care for 12 days without re-supply. All of The Flying Hospital's systems are designed for deployment to areas with limited support.

The Flying Hospital also serves as a training center for healthcare professionals in the partner nation, who are invited to participate in surgical procedures or observe them via closed circuit televisions in the aircraft. Teaching seminars are also conducted at other sites.

The skills and insights gained benefit the citizens of our partner nations long after the plane has departed.

Each Flying Hospital medical mission represents a global partnership that combines the efforts and support of individuals and groups to help hurting people. A mission is an opportunity to individuals in the healthcare field and in other fields to volunteer their time and expertise to alleviate human suffering in places that sometimes lack even the basic, elementary medical services. Likewise, organizations that sponsor The Flying Hospital missions through support for various aspects of the plane's operations (donations of capital, parts, equipment and supplies) help make the mission possible.
